Speech & Language Assessments

Assessments

A Speech and Language Assessment is a thorough evaluation of a child's communication skills across several key areas:

  • Articulation - how clearly a child produces speech sounds
  • Receptive Language - understanding of words and sentences and the meaning of language
  • Expressive Language - using words and sentences to share thoughts clearly and accurately
  • Fluency - the rhythm, flow, and smoothness of speech
  • Voice - quality, pitch, and loudness of the voice
  • Pragmatic Language - the social use of language, including conversation skills, nonverbal communication (eye contact, facial expressions, body language), and appropriateness of interactions in different situations.

Assessments are an important first step in determining whether speech therapy services are needed and, if so, what type and level of support will best help your child succeed. While our clinic provides full speech and language assessments, some insurance plans may require their own evaluation.

Please contact us or your insurance company to learn more about coverage and requirements.

Services can be provided in two ways:

  • Direct Therapy - individualized instruction for the child in a one-on-one or small group setting
